Sikh Truck Driver Stabbed 17 Times in Wyoming

A Punjabi Sikh truck driver was stabbed repeatedly, including in the neck and chest, at the Bitter Creek rest area in southern Wyoming after he said another man followed him into a bathroom. A family at the rest stop helped him after the attack, and authorities arrested 45-year-old Andrew Kris Bzdak, who faces an attempted first-degree murder charge; investigators have not disclosed a motive. Sikh and South Asian advocacy groups are urging authorities to determine whether the assault was motivated by racial or religious hatred. Their concerns intensified because the stabbing occurred days after the Department of Homeland Security posted and later removed an image targeting a fictional South Asian truck driver identified as “Mr. Singh,” though no evidence currently establishes a connection between the post and the attack.
