Slovakia regional elections reelect all eight governors preserving power balance
Slovakia’s regional and municipal elections largely preserved the existing balance of power: all eight regional governors were reelected, with two backed by Prime Minister Robert Fico’s governing coalition, four from pro-Western opposition parties, and two independents. In the eastern Prešov region, Christian Democratic opposition leader Milan Majerský defeated a far-right Republic party candidate, while Bratislava Mayor Matúš Vallo won another term. The results point to political continuity ahead of the next parliamentary election, though opposition parties made limited gains in smaller municipalities.
