Sotomayor Hopes Supreme Court Overturns Immunity Ruling
Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor said she hopes the court will eventually overturn its 2024 ruling granting presidents at least presumptive immunity from prosecution for official acts, a decision she dissented from. Speaking at George Washington’s Mount Vernon estate, she described the country as facing a “rough patch” for the rule of law and civic discourse, while expressing confidence that the nation can recover. She urged continued civic education and greater civility, and praised strong voter participation without weighing in directly on the midterm results.
