Charlotte to Host WTA Finals from 2027 as Tour Moves Headquarters

The WTA Finals will be held at Charlotte’s Spectrum Center from 2027 through 2029, bringing the season-ending championship for the top eight singles players and doubles teams to North Carolina. The WTA will operate the tournament directly through a public-private partnership with Charlotte, county and state officials, and local businesses, while relocating its global headquarters to the city. The tournament is expected to be shortened from eight public competition days to five to accommodate the NBA schedule, with the final format still being developed with players. The WTA aims to make the Finals the “Super Bowl of women’s sports” and could stage a WTA 500 event in Charlotte after 2029 if a dedicated tennis stadium is built. The move follows years of changing host cities and uneven attendance, the early end of the Finals’ Saudi Arabia hosting agreement, and the 2026 tournament’s shift to Indian Wells amid regional security concerns and reduced Saudi financial support. The WTA faces financial pressure from the relocation and lost Saudi-backed revenue, but Chair Valerie Camillo said it is cutting costs and expects a path to sustainable performance from 2027 onward.
