NFL Suspends 49ers Owner Six Games, Fines $500K
The NFL suspended San Francisco 49ers principal owner Jed York for six regular-season games and fined him $500,000 for violating its Personal Conduct Policy. The penalty followed his Aug. 23, 2026 arrest in East Palestine, Ohio, in an undercover prostitution sting after he arranged a $140 sex act via a website ad. Prosecutors amended the original prostitution charge to disorderly conduct and possession of criminal tools. York pleaded no contest, received a one-day jail sentence with credit for time served, a $1,150 fine, and completed an online course. Seized cash of $160 went to the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force. York said he accepts the decision in full, called it an inexcusable mistake, took full responsibility, and apologized to his family, the team, fans and partners. He said he fell short of the model he wants for his sons and that trust will have to be earned back. The league counted three games he already missed toward the ban, so he is eligible to return Oct. 20 ahead of the Week 7 game at Atlanta. Hall of Famer Michael Irvin questioned the public fallout over the arrest in on-air comments.
