Devils Acquire Hellebuyck in Six-Asset Trade

The Winnipeg Jets traded three-time Vezina Trophy-winning goaltender Connor Hellebuyck to the New Jersey Devils, ending months of uncertainty after he requested a move and was suspended for missing training camp. The Devils sent center Dawson Mercer, goaltender Nico Daws, forward Nick Bjugstad, prospect Alexander Command, a 2029 second-round pick and a 2027 seventh-round pick to Winnipeg. Hellebuyck, 33, is a former NHL MVP who helped the United States win Olympic gold in 2026, and is under contract through the 2030-31 season. His arrival gives the Devils a proven starter after their goaltenders struggled early this season, though it was not immediately clear when he would be ready to play.
