Two women's teams score own baskets same day
Two Division I women’s basketball players scored on their own baskets in separate games Friday. Northwestern State’s Karma Wynn put the ball through the wrong hoop against Arkansas, which went on to win 89-59. Later, with New Mexico State trailing Southern Utah by one and about 20 seconds left, Emma Christiano’s wrong-basket layup gave Southern Utah a three-point lead. The Aggies recovered: Stacy Chovino scored twice, including the go-ahead basket with two seconds remaining, to secure a 64-63 win. Neither mistake ultimately changed the outcome of its game, though Christiano’s nearly cost New Mexico State the victory.
