Suspect Dies After Shooting Officer Outside Belleville Synagogue

Belleville police identified 29-year-old Sean Ward as the suspect in a Yom Kippur shooting outside the Sons of Jacob Synagogue, in which Constable Jeff Smith was critically injured and the suspect was wounded. The Special Investigations Unit is investigating, and authorities say there is no ongoing threat while police increase patrols around Jewish sites.
