Taiwan Says US Support Remains Bipartisan After Midterms
Taiwanese officials said U.S. congressional support for Taiwan’s defense and broader ties has traditionally been bipartisan and that Taipei will continue working with both parties after Democrats won control of the House and Senate. Defense Minister Wellington Koo said Taiwan would stay in contact with lawmakers and the U.S. defense department to help keep arms sales on schedule. The reassurance comes as a proposed $14 billion arms package remains stalled after President Donald Trump called it a bargaining tool, while China opposes U.S. arms sales to Taiwan. Taiwan’s Foreign Ministry also said it would deepen cooperation with the United States in areas including security, trade, technology and education.
