Snap Launches $2,195 Specs AR Glasses

Evan Spiegel took the stage in Los Angeles on Wednesday after a promotional video and gave live demos of Specs features. Snap set the AR glasses at $2,195, with some reports at $2,200, opened preorders, and said delivery comes later this fall. Spiegel announced Specs Intelligence as an AI native operating system for the glasses, iPhone and Mac apps, plus Specs for Enterprise with Amazon, Salesforce and Nvidia. A demo video showed an IT technician repairing hardware with the glasses. New options include HBO Max and Spotify ties and an NBA/WNBA AR app for practicing basketball shots. A 5G charging case via Verizon runs $10 a month for its customers and $20 for others. "We're being told that AI will take our jobs, that virtual worlds will replace the real one. Well, no, thank you. We do not accept that future. Making people irrelevant is not progress, and computers should make us more important, not less," Spiegel said. He added Snap is building mobile device management and security controls for IT departments. The company will host a Specs pop-up in Los Angeles in October before shipping. What is contested: none found.
