Binance Says It Replenished 98% of $6.3B Heist
Binance says attackers stole about $6.34 billion in digital assets on Oct. 29 after a months-long campaign targeting its engineers, which began with a compromised Homebrew installer in June and included a fake recruitment process in September that led an employee to install malware. The attackers used compromised internal tools and credentials to reach wallet systems and authorize illicit transfers. The FBI attributed the theft to North Korea-linked hackers, an allegation Pyongyang rejected. Binance says it has replenished 98% of affected assets, frozen or intercepted about $2.85 billion, and will cover customer losses; it has rebuilt affected systems and is strengthening security controls.
