Texas Awards $20M Grants to Train 7,400 Students
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott announced 84 Jobs and Education for Texans grants totaling more than $20 million, awarded through the Texas Workforce Commission to colleges, school districts and charter schools. The grants fund equipment for career and technical education programs expected to train more than 7,400 students in their first year for high-demand fields, including welding, nursing, radiology, engineering and HVAC. North Texas awards include funding for Collin College and Tarrant County College District to train welders, while other grants support programs across the state. State officials say the awards will help students prepare for well-paying careers and employers build a skilled workforce; questions remain about how schools will sustain instructor staffing and measure graduates’ job placement over time.
