Texas Gov. Abbott Skips Hinojosa Debate

Democratic Texas gubernatorial nominee Gina Hinojosa staged a debate outside the Governor’s Mansion after Gov. Greg Abbott declined invitations from multiple media outlets and did not appear. Hinojosa answered questions and criticized Abbott’s record, while Abbott said he preferred campaigning in communities and speaking directly with voters. The no-show came as polls showed a close race, with some placing the candidates within the margin of error. Hinojosa also highlighted policy positions including raising the minimum age to purchase assault-style rifles and increasing support for public schools.
