Thousands Expected to Monitor US Polls
Democratic groups and outside watchdogs are preparing to deploy tens of thousands of volunteers to monitor polling places in the midterm election, citing concerns that President Donald Trump could use federal resources to interfere with voting. They will be joined by Republican-aligned observers and what is described as the Justice Department’s largest-ever election-monitoring effort, creating an unusually extensive presence at polling sites. Democratic and nonprofit organizations are training volunteers to report concerning activity, while a new party cybersecurity unit will track online misinformation, including AI-generated deepfakes.
