Trump Administration Faces Criticism Over Halloween Social Media Posts
Trump administration accounts drew criticism for sharing Halloween-themed images linked to a Black social media personality accused of food-assistance fraud. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins posted an image labeling the man a “SNAP FRAUDSTER” and suggesting he faced prison, while the White House separately posted a pumpkin carved with a sombrero. The posts appeared amid the administration’s efforts to promote immigration enforcement and anti-fraud measures ahead of the midterm elections, with critics calling the imagery racially inflammatory. The man, identified by the Justice Department as Mercedes Reshard New, was arrested on federal charges alleging he fraudulently obtained more than $4 million in SNAP benefits in Georgia.
