UK Tribunal Allows £306 Million Apple-Amazon Suit

The U.K.’s Competition Appeal Tribunal has allowed consumers’ claims against Apple and Amazon over sales on Amazon’s marketplace to proceed. The lawsuit alleges a 2018 agreement restricted which third-party sellers could offer Apple products on the site, reducing competition and raising prices; the surviving claims are estimated at £289 million to £306 million, including interest. The tribunal rejected claims involving purchases from Apple and other retailers, finding insufficient evidence that the alleged restrictions affected prices beyond Amazon. The case was refiled after an earlier version was blocked over concerns about its proposed representative and funding arrangements.
