UK Under-Fives: Just 5% Received Eye Exams
A UK report found that many children are missing routine eye care: an estimated 60% of children under 16 had no eye test in 2025, including about 95% of children five and younger. Optometrists say early and regular examinations can detect treatable problems before they interfere with children’s learning and development, but many parents have never arranged a full eye exam for their child. In Hyderabad, ophthalmologist Dr. Sirisha Senthil was recognized for her work at the L V Prasad Eye Institute, where she treats patients, conducts research and trains future eye-care professionals. Eye exams are also presented as a lifelong habit, not just a childhood screening.
