Vietnam chip plant unlikely to meet 2027 target, sources say
Vietnam is unlikely to begin trial production at its first semiconductor plant by the 2027 target, as negotiations with equipment maker ASML remain unresolved and the Hanoi-area site still has no construction. Delays are attributed to developer Viettel’s limited experience building chip factories and difficulties securing government funding, leaving the project’s timeline uncertain. Viettel says the project is proceeding according to plan and has said it aims for full-scale operations by 2030, supplying chips to aerospace, telecommunications and automotive industries. The plant is part of Vietnam’s effort to expand its role in the semiconductor industry.
