Walking Events Promote Health, Greener Commuting
Communities and institutions are using organized walks to promote health, connection and more sustainable habits. EvergreenHealth is inviting people of all ages and abilities to join doctor-led walks on trails in Redmond and Bothell, with events featuring health topics and opportunities to connect. Western Kentucky University launched an Exercise is Medicine walk to encourage students, faculty and staff to prioritize physical activity and well-being. In Huntington, the Wellness Walk for Hope is scheduled for Oct. 24 at Heckscher Park, with music, children’s activities and information about mental health and support services. A separate five-day Walktober challenge in the Region 1 Planning Council area drew 52 participants, who logged more than 300 miles using walking, biking, transit or carpools instead of driving.
