Walsh Lowers Her Own 50m Short-Course World Record

Gretchen Walsh broke her own short-course 50-meter freestyle world record with a time of 22.75 seconds at a meet at the University of Virginia, lowering her previous mark of 22.83 set at the 2024 World Short Course Championships in Budapest. The swim also bettered the U.S. Open record set earlier that day by Kate Douglass. Walsh said she was surprised by the record and hopes to swim even faster at the World Short Course Championships in Beijing this December.
