Waymo opens driverless rides in three cities as regulators investigate
Waymo opened its fully autonomous ride-hailing service to the public in San Diego, San Antonio and Tampa, allowing anyone in the cities’ service areas to request rides through its app without an early-access code. In San Antonio, service includes the international airport, while the company also highlighted recent software and operational updates focused on safety and detecting floodwaters. The launches broaden Waymo’s reach as it expands its service across U.S. cities, though the rollout comes as federal regulators investigate reports of its vehicles passing stopped school buses and the company says it plans a voluntary software recall.
