Ten states rank their wettest Octobers on record since 1895
Wyoming recorded 2.11 inches of precipitation in October 2025, ranking 10th-wettest for the state since 1895 and below the 2.87 inches set in 1994. Stacker built state rankings from National Centers for Environmental Information data back to 1895, ordering Octobers by total precipitation and noting average, high and low temperatures for each listed month. Wisconsin's wettest October on that scale remains 1900 at 6.1 inches, with 2017 10th at 4.3 inches. West Virginia's top mark is 1976 at 7.36 inches; 2006 sits 10th at 5.45 inches. The wire summary centered the Stacker series on ten states: West Virginia, Utah, Texas, New Mexico, Nebraska, Montana, New Jersey, Mississippi, Maine and Massachusetts. Separate AOL Stacker articles also covered Wyoming, Wisconsin, North Dakota and New York. Center-rated outlets ran South Carolina, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Kansas and Georgia versions. Right-rated outlets covered California and the ten-state aggregate. Outlet counts conflict in the record. A tally rates 26 left, 5 center and 2 right. The IJR page lists 36 sources as 22 left, 5 center, 1 right and 8 other. The precipitation figures themselves are not disputed in the available coverage.
