Texas Gets FEMA Aid, Prepares for Flooding
Texas received FEMA Individual Assistance approval for residents affected by July storms and flooding in 20 counties; a separate appeal for hazard-mitigation funding remained pending. Separately, Gov. Greg Abbott directed state agencies to prepare for heavy rain and possible flash flooding forecast across West and South-Central Texas, with particular concern for the Permian Basin, Big Bend, South Plains, Big Country, Hill Country and border regions. State resources included emergency personnel, swiftwater rescue teams and boats, helicopters, highway patrol and medical support, while agencies monitored roads, utilities and other conditions. Officials urged residents to follow local guidance, monitor forecasts and stay out of floodwaters.
