White Sox Scouting Director Shirley Resigns Amid Allegations

Chicago White Sox amateur scouting director Mike Shirley resigned Saturday and is no longer with the organization amid an internal investigation into allegations that he made racist, sexist and otherwise verbally harassing remarks toward or in front of coworkers at the Area Code Games in Long Beach, California. The team placed Shirley on administrative leave after receiving an anonymous complaint, and its human resources department interviewed members of the amateur scouting staff. The White Sox have not disclosed the investigation’s findings and declined to comment beyond saying they could not discuss personnel matters. Shirley had also been investigated after a 2022 complaint alleging he treated scouts from underrepresented groups differently, but that probe reportedly found no evidence of bias or grounds for discipline. Shirley had led the amateur scouting department since 2019 and oversaw the drafting of several notable players, including Garrett Crochet, Colson Montgomery, Hagen Smith and 2026 No. 1 overall pick Roch Cholowsky.
