Nepal-Tibet Border Floods: Dozens Missing, Thousands Displaced

A glacier-collapse-triggered flood disaster along the Nepal-Tibet border has prompted a massive rescue operation, with more than 11,000 people saved and about 20,600 personnel mobilised in Nepal as of late August/early September. The death toll is around 939 to 955, with missing people exceeding 4,000 across Nepal, Tibet, and India. Rescuers continue to deal with mud, debris and difficult access, including hundreds of hydropower workers trapped in tunnels at multiple sites. Cross-border assistance from Indian and Chinese teams is ongoing, and shelters have been opened for thousands of displaced residents. The disaster has sparked a growing mental health crisis, with dozens of professionals deployed to provide Psychological First Aid. Officials caution that figures may vary as agencies verify data and conduct mass burial/identification.
