Nepal Floods: Evacuation Saves 900, School Destroyed

In Nepal, floods and landslides killed hundreds and left thousands missing, with death toll estimated around 800-900 and thousands unaccounted region-wide. Tribhuvan Trishuli Secondary School in the Trishuli/Nuwakot area was swept away after headteacher Rajendra Dawadi ordered an immediate evacuation of roughly 900 students and staff minutes before floodwaters arrived. Dawadi’s warnings, delivered within about 14 minutes from multiple sources, prompted him to halt classes, ring the bell, and direct buses away, actions described as lifesaving for hundreds of children. The school, which housed about 1,643 students, was destroyed, and at least one staff member is among the missing or dead. The broader disaster has damaged or destroyed dozens of schools and displaced tens of thousands. Authorities warn of renewed flooding and emphasize rapid warnings and school-based evacuation plans.
