Algeria Reportedly Severs Ties With UAE

Algeria has severed diplomatic relations with the United Arab Emirates, citing escalating provocative and hostile actions after exhausting efforts to preserve bilateral ties. Algiers summoned the UAE ambassador and gave him 48 hours to leave, without identifying a specific immediate trigger. The rupture follows years of disagreements over alleged Emirati interference in Algeria and regional conflicts, as well as opposing positions on Western Sahara and other geopolitical issues. The UAE expressed regret, reaffirmed its commitment to relations with all countries, hoped the break would be temporary, and said the dispute would not affect Algerian residents or visitors in the country. Separately, French Socialist figure Ségolène Royal and the rector of the Grand Mosque of Paris criticized far-right rhetoric targeting support for Algeria, while Algeria and India pursued expanded mining cooperation through technology transfers, joint research, geological mapping and investment.
