Taiz market strike reportedly kills seven, injures 40

Seven people were killed and 40 others injured, including children, in a strike on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at the Economic Corporation Market at Mawiya Junction in Al-Ta'ziyah district, Taiz province. Houthi-run health ministry authorities said Saudi warplanes hit commercial shops. Yemen's internationally recognized government said its forces targeted a Houthi military camp and vehicles at the same junction. Three military sources within the Yemeni government told Reuters that Houthi fighters had recently established a camp near the market. The circumstances and intended target have not been independently verified. The incident comes amid intensifying clashes in Taiz. On Saturday the Saudi-backed coalition said it intercepted two Houthi drones toward Riyadh and a ballistic missile toward Khamis Mushait; Saudi authorities issued alerts in Abha and Jazan. Houthi spokesman Yahya Saree said Saudi forces carried out 27 airstrikes across Taiz, Marib, Saada, Amran, Ibb and Hajjah. More than 146,000 people have been displaced since fighting erupted in July, according to UNICEF's Yemen country representative, mostly from or within Taiz.
