Senatobia Officer Resigns After Fatal Toddler Shooting
Hunter Foster, the Senatobia, Mississippi, officer who fatally shot 1-year-old Kohen Wiley during a June encounter outside a Walmart, has resigned from the police department. Newly released body-camera footage shows officers confronting a car carrying Wiley, his mother and a friend after a shoplifting alert; Foster fired three shots, killing Kohen and injuring the driver. Mississippi’s attorney general concluded the shooting was justified, citing investigators’ finding that the car drove toward officers. Wiley’s family disputes that account, and its attorney says the footage and an independent autopsy indicate the fatal shot came from the side of the car. The family plans to seek Foster’s decertification and is calling for a federal investigation.
