West Virginia’s defense has struggled through three straight losses and has yet to win a Big 12 game, prompting pressure on defensive coordinator Zac Alley and the coaching staff. Coach Rich Rodriguez has backed Alley and pointed to past Jacksonville State defenses under Alley and Rodriguez that improved after midseason struggles, saying they simplified and adjusted week by week. Alley says he is considering personnel changes, with no starting job guaranteed, and plans to put the team’s most athletic players in positions where they can succeed while keeping the scheme simple. He has also described relying on prayer and a conversation with his pastor to stay grounded, while acknowledging that the defense must make practical changes to improve.
