Fewer Than Half of Americans Say They Think Biden Is ‘Mentally Sharp’: Poll

GLASGOW, SCOTLAND - NOVEMBER 02: U.S. President Joe Biden speaks during the World Leaders' Summit "Accelerating Clean Technology Innovation and Deployment" session on day three of COP26 on November 02, 2021 in Glasgow, Scotland. It is the 26th "Conference of the Parties" and represents a gathering of all the countries signed on to the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Paris Climate Agreement. The aim of this year's conference is to commit countries to net zero carbon emissions by 2050. (Ian Forsyth/Getty Images)

The majority of Americans are not convinced President Joe Biden is “mentally sharp.”

According to an I&I/TIPP survey, only 42% of respondents say they think Biden is “mentally sharp.” More than half disagree with the statement. Forty-two percent also said the president is “energetic.”

The survey showed 74% of Democrats say Biden is “mentally sharp” while only 13% of Republicans agree.

As the survey notes, “The poll sheds still more light on the erosion of Biden’s support among independents, women, middle-income Americans, and suburbanites – groups that were key to his becoming president.”

Only 34% of Independents expressed confidence in Biden’s mental capacity. At the same time, 40% of women say Biden is “mentally sharp.”

The poll, conducted online from October 27-29, surveyed 1,306 adults.

The latest national NBC News poll found only 42% of American adults approve of Biden’s overall job performance. The number represents a 7 point decline since August.

As NBC News notes, “Maybe even more troubling for Biden, just 37 percent of adults give him high marks — on a 5-point scale — for being competent and effective as president, and only 28 percent give him high marks for uniting the country.”

The outlet continues, “By contrast, 50 percent give him low scores for being competent, and 51 percent give him low scores for uniting the country.”

Biden raised eyebrows earlier this week after he appeared to fall asleep during opening speeches at the 26th United Nations’ Climate Change Conference of the Parties, as IJR reported.

President Donald Trump took a swipe at Biden in a statement, saying, “It is very interesting that Afghanistan, and our horrible and incompetent withdrawal, losing soldiers and leaving $Billions of military equipment, was when people really began to realize how horrible this Socialism/Communism direction for America has become.”

He added, “We have never been thought of so poorly as we are right now, including the fact that the leaders of foreign countries, all of whom are at the top of their game, are laughing at Biden as he makes the rounds in Europe.”
