Every other branch of the armed forces has a dedicated civilian Service Secretary, Senate-confirmed, accountable to the president, focused solely on organizing, manning, training and equipping their force. The Coast Guard does not.

Lauren Boebert’s amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) that would have codified President Donald Trump’s January 2025 executive order barring transgender-identifying individuals from military service.
