The Voice contestant Dylan Carter’s death has been ruled accidental following a late-night crash in South Carolina, according to officials.
Authorities say the 24-year-old died from injuries sustained in a single-vehicle accident in Colleton County, per Page Six.
TMZ further reported that the county coroner confirmed the ruling and noted that Carter was wearing a seatbelt at the time.
The crash happened just after 11 p.m. on April 25 when Carter was driving alone. Law enforcement said his 2026 Tesla sedan veered off the road, struck a pole and a fence, and then rolled.
He was taken to a hospital, where he later died.
Carter first gained national attention during Season 24 of “The Voice,” where his audition quickly set him apart from other contestants.
Performing “I Look to You” by Whitney Houston, he dedicated the song to his late mother — a moment that resonated strongly with both viewers and the show’s coaches.
All four judges — Gwen Stefani, John Legend, Reba McEntire and Niall Horan — turned their chairs, each hoping to bring him onto their team.
He ultimately chose McEntire as his coach but was later eliminated during the Battle Rounds.
Carter’s family confirmed his death in a statement shared Sunday, describing the loss as deeply painful.
“As a gifted singer, he frequently entertained our community with his performances at Town events,” the statement read in part. “His kindness and charm earned him immense respect, and his absence will be deeply felt.”
The message also extended condolences to those impacted by his death.
“To the loved ones and acquaintances of Dylan, we offer our sincerest condolences during this difficult period,” the statement continued. “The Town of Moncks Corner, its Council, and entire staff extend their deepest sympathies.”
The family concluded with a personal tribute.
“He was much more to our family than an entertainer he was our friend and we are deeply saddened.”
Carter’s sudden death has left both his local community and fans of “The Voice” mourning the loss of a young performer whose time in the spotlight left a lasting impression.
