Former Secretary of StateĀ Hillary ClintonĀ is slamming Republican officials who continue to support former PresidentĀ Donald TrumpĀ and says she believes they are acting like a cult.Ā
During an interview with The Washington Post on Monday, Clinton addressed the fact that members of the Republican Party continue to embrace Trump.
āIt is really troubling to see the Republican Party turn themselves into a cult and basically pledge allegiance not to the United States of America but to Donald Trump,ā Clinton said.Ā
Watch the video below:
Still, she said, āIām hoping that the Republican Party will find its soul, will find its center again and understand that they canāt keep playing with fire.ā
Clinton claimed that Republicans thought they could ācontrolā or āuseā Trump to ātake over the Supreme Courtā or ārecklessly cut taxes.ā
āSo, I hope that the Republican Party catches up with the rest of the country,ā she added.
Clintonās comments come after Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said there is a ādark sideā associated with Trump, but also some āmagic there.ā
āWhat Iām tryinā to do is just harness the magic,ā he said, adding, āTo me, Donald Trump is sort of a cross between Jesse Helms, Ronald Reagan and P.T. Barnum.ā
Graham also claimed that Trump could āmake the Republican Party something that nobody else I know can make itā or ādestroy it.ā
Clinton is not the only one who has warned Republicans against continuing to embrace the former president.
Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.) has warned the party against continuing to support and praise Trump as he said, āIf we idolize one person, we will lose. And thatās kind of clear from the last election.ā
Despite Republicans losing the White House, the Senate, and the House in less than four years ā the first time that has happened in almost 100 years ā Graham hasĀ arguedĀ that Trump is the āhope of the future of conservatism.ā
