Veterans Day Events, Offers Planned Nationwide
Communities across the United States are marking Veterans Day on Nov. 11 with ceremonies, memorial tributes, meals and programs recognizing veterans and their service, a tradition tied to the anniversary of the World War I armistice. Observances include a Wisconsin powwow and tribute dedication; ceremonies in Ohio, Indiana, Wisconsin, Mississippi and North Carolina; events in Jermyn, Bolingbrook and northeastern Kansas; and a University of Illinois Springfield program. In Mississippi, annual school breakfasts in Gautier, Oak Grove and Ocean Springs bring veterans and students together; nearly 400 people attended Gautier High School’s event, which included tributes and opportunities to share service stories. Vancouver, Washington, will host an open house connecting veterans with local services and career opportunities, while North Vancouver will display 24 new banners honoring veterans and historically significant sites. Columbus State University, Cornell and Duke will hold campus activities, including tributes, performances and training to support military-connected students. Bubba’s 33 restaurants and a Stone Lake luncheon will offer meals to veterans, and IHG Hotels & Resorts is promoting career-search support for veterans, transitioning service members and military spouses.
