U.S. Communities Mark Veterans Day with Events
Communities across the United States are marking Veterans Day with parades, ceremonies and gatherings honoring veterans, including events in Waynesburg, Harrisonburg, Bakersfield, Brooklyn and McMinnville. Brooklyn’s parade will include a free resource fair for veterans and their families, and McMinnville plans to feature 104-year-old World War II Navy veteran Peggy Lutz as grand marshal if her health allows. In Natchez, a lantern-lit cemetery tour featuring portrayals of veterans from the Revolutionary War through Vietnam will raise funds to preserve the historic burial ground. Other tributes include a new veterans monument and flagpole in Laconia, Pike Road’s annual appreciation ceremony, and a campaign seeking donations for wreaths at graves in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. In Hamilton and Burlington, Canada, Remembrance Day services will honor veterans, active service members and the fallen, with a procession and ceremonies at local cenotaphs.
