Logano Claims Gateway Pole, Widest Since 2017
Joey Logano won the pole for Sunday’s Enjoy Illinois 300 at World Wide Technology Raceway, delivering a 32.817-second lap at 137.124 mph in his No. 22 Team Penske Ford. His 0.276-second advantage over defending champion Kyle Larson marked one of the largest Cup qualifying margins in years. Ryan Blaney, Christopher Bell and Chase Briscoe completed the top five, while Chase drivers occupied all 10 of the leading starting spots. Championship leader Denny Hamlin qualified 10th, while Austin Cindric, Ryan Preece and Daniel Suarez will start 13th through 15th; Tyler Reddick, Chris Buescher and William Byron face deeper starts in 18th, 21st and 24th, respectively. Logano, who has two wins this season and a strong record at Gateway, said his team needs to maximize points and that the car showed speed in both short- and long-run conditions.
