Obama plans Ohio, Michigan campaign swing
Barack Obama is campaigning Saturday, Oct. 24, 2026, first in Cleveland with Sherrod Brown and Amy Acton, then in Detroit for Abdul El-Sayed. Brown is seeking to unseat Republican Sen. Jon Husted; Acton is running for governor against Republican Vivek Ramaswamy. El-Sayed won a divisive Democratic primary by less than one percentage point and faces Republican former Rep. Mike Rogers. President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance have both visited Ohio recently for Husted and Ramaswamy. Obama’s Detroit stop comes in a city that is three-quarters Black. Haley Stevens won Wayne County by about 6 points in the primary; Kamala Harris campaigned for El-Sayed in September. El-Sayed spoke with Obama by phone after his August primary win. He earlier wrote that Obama “was not the right choice — he just wasn’t the wrong one,” later calling him “foundational” to his path into office and saying it is normal to appreciate someone’s work while noting things he would have done differently. Jocelyn Benson, the Democratic nominee for governor against Republican Rep. John James, is slated to appear with others down the ballot.
