Syracuse Beats New Haven 74-58 in McNamara Debut
Syracuse opened its season with a 74-58 home win over New Haven, giving Gerry McNamara a victory in his first regular-season game as head coach of his alma mater. The Orange surged to an 18-0 lead, held New Haven to 25.9% shooting in the first half and built a lead as large as 28 points before easing off in the second half. The opener began a new era for Syracuse, which hired McNamara after he led Siena to the 2026 MAAC Tournament title; New Haven entered the season after finishing 14-17 the previous year.
