Apple Unveils $1,999 Foldable iPhone Duo

Apple unveiled the iPhone Duo, its first foldable smartphone and its most significant iPhone redesign in years, positioning it as a premium alternative to existing foldables. The passport-sized device opens to a 7.6-inch display with a 5.4-inch outer screen, supports multitasking and Apple Pencil, offers up to 2TB of storage, and uses the A20 Pro chip with a new modem and cooling system. It starts at $1,999, with preorders beginning October 16 and sales starting October 23; analysts expect its high price to limit adoption. Apple also introduced two MagSafe-compatible cases, including a $129 folio with a built-in kickstand and a $79 two-part protective case. The company announced the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, priced $100 above their predecessors and featuring a variable-aperture 48-megapixel camera, while highlighting expanded artificial-intelligence features for iPhones and wearables. iOS 27.1, expected shortly before the Duo’s release, will add software adaptations for its dual displays and a vertical dock.
