Bill Gates Calls AI 'Alien Intelligence,' Urges US-China Cooperation
Bill Gates warned that governments worldwide are unprepared for artificial intelligence’s effects on society, including job losses, cyberattacks and potential addiction to AI companions. He urged the United States, China and other countries to cooperate, saying AI resembles an “alien intelligence” whose risks require coordinated preparation. Gates has discussed the issue with current President Donald Trump’s team and plans to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping later this year. He said AI could either widen inequality or help poorer countries, depending on whether it is developed and distributed equitably, particularly in local languages and with data relevant to developing nations. The Gates Foundation plans to commit at least $1 billion over the next two years to expand AI access and support applications in health care, education, agriculture and digital infrastructure.
