Trump Administration Prepares Deportation of 150 Afghans via Pakistan

The Trump administration is preparing a flight of Afghan immigrants to Pakistan expected as early as Monday, a senior administration official told NBC News, describing dozens facing removal; advocates and other reports put the number at roughly 150 or more. AfghanEvac said at least 80 Afghans were moved to the Central Louisiana ICE Processing Center in Jena from 34 other ICE facilities, 19 without lawyers. Charlotte Moyal said her husband was shifted from Pennsylvania to Louisiana and told of early November deportation. Trump halted Afghan refugee admissions on returning to office. Contested: VanDiver and Rep. Scott Peters say the group may include relatives of Afghans who stood with U.S. troops and warn Pakistan, which has expelled or pressured over two million Afghans since 2023, may push them into Taliban-controlled Afghanistan. VanDiver said the U.S. is sending them so Pakistan will finish the job and that anybody from Afghanistan is in danger if sent back. Peters called the decision absolute cruelty and said it must be reversed. A senior official said the administration does not really care what happens to those without status. The State Department said countries must manage borders and immigration for citizens' safety and security. DHS cited operational security in declining to confirm. The Supreme Court is set to debate third-country deportation agreements in December. Whether the flight proceeds and deportees' fate after Pakistan remain unresolved.
