BASF sues Apple over seven Face ID patents — 10hBASF, via its trinamiX unit, has filed a patent-infringement lawsuit in a U.S. District Court in Midland, Texas, accusing Apple of using Face ID technology that allegedly infringes seven BASF patents across iPhone and iPad models, and seeking damages and an injunction. The filing date is September 3, 2026, and Apple has not issued a public comment on the case, which BASF frames as enabling privacy-preserving, spoof-resistant facial recognition through its 3D and near-infrared techniques.
