DHS Says Large Omar Case Reaches DOJ
Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin says DHS has sent the Justice Department a substantial investigation involving Rep. Ilhan Omar and other people; prosecutors have confirmed the inquiry is ongoing but have not identified the other individuals. The investigation includes scrutiny of possible immigration fraud and statements on government documents, and authorities have searched Omar’s Washington home and her sister’s residence and issued more than a dozen grand jury subpoenas. Omar denies wrongdoing, has not been charged, and her lawyers are seeking the return of seized materials; Mullin rejects claims that the probe is politically motivated, while Omar and Democratic lawmakers have criticized it.
