Trump Urges Ukraine to Halt Russian Refinery Strikes
Current President Donald Trump urged Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to stop targeting Russian oil refineries and diesel infrastructure, arguing that the strikes are contributing to fuel shortages and rising diesel prices in Russia. Trump said Ukraine could pursue other military targets but should avoid attacks that disrupt diesel supplies, while Kyiv maintains that Russia’s oil and gas industry finances and supports its war effort. Ukraine reported striking a major refinery in Sloviansk-on-Kuban, causing damage and a fire; Russian and regional authorities confirmed casualties and damage but did not fully substantiate Kyiv’s account. Overnight drone attacks also killed two people and injured 14 in Russia’s Tatarstan, home to major oil-refining and petrochemical facilities, while Russia claimed to have intercepted hundreds of Ukrainian drones.
