Russia Attacks Ukraine: At Least 12 Killed, 8 Regions

On September 1, Ukraine faced a sixth straight day of heavy Russian strikes around Kyiv and eight other regions, with at least 12 people killed and more than a dozen injured, including three children. In Kyiv eight people died and four others in the surrounding region, while six Ukrainian Railways workers were killed when a ballistic missile hit a depot and railway facilities. Authorities said civilian infrastructure and residential buildings were targeted, and nearly 350 emergency workers were deployed to Kyiv and nearby areas. Ukraine’s air force said Russia deployed 218 drones, about a third jet-powered, along with ballistic and cruise missiles, while Moscow’s forces said they carried out precision-guided strikes aimed at military facilities. The attacks also hit Odesa’s port infrastructure and a border crossing at Orlivka near Romania, increasingly disrupting export infrastructure and energy networks. EU officials warned that Russia’s campaign is designed to intimidate civilians and that Moscow’s ground advances remain stalled.
