Slovak Prosecutor Reopens MiG-29 Ukraine Donation Probe
Slovakia’s prosecutor general has reopened an investigation into the previous government’s 2023 transfer of MiG-29 fighter jets and KUB air-defense systems to Ukraine, saying the earlier inquiry ended before the facts were sufficiently established. The case concerns decisions by the caretaker government led by Eduard Heger; its members have denied allegations including abuse of power and mismanagement. A regional prosecutor had previously concluded that the equipment was obsolete or not fully operational and that the donation was not a crime. The renewed investigation comes amid a political dispute with Prime Minister Robert Fico’s government, which has criticized the transfer and halted military aid to Ukraine. Prosecutorial oversight has been reassigned to a regional office in Trenčín.
