Russian Strikes Kill Civilians Across Ukraine
Russian forces launched missiles and drones at Kyiv and other Ukrainian regions overnight on Oct. 21-22, killing civilians, injuring dozens, including children, and damaging homes, transport and energy infrastructure. Ukraine said it intercepted or jammed 181 of 210 drones, while Russia claimed its air defenses downed 808 Ukrainian drones in attacks on Moscow and other Russian cities. The barrage came hours after Vladimir Putin agreed in principle to resume U.S.-brokered three-way talks, but no date was set and the sides remain far apart on terms for ending the war. Separately, a Ukrainian drone carrying explosives crashed in Lithuania near the Latvian border on Oct. 18, damaging a passing car but causing no injuries; Lithuanian officials said it had crossed from Poland and was reportedly headed toward a target in Russia.
