Putin Floats Trump-Xi Ukraine Summit in Shenzhen
Vladimir Putin has reportedly proposed meeting Donald Trump and Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the November APEC summit in Shenzhen to discuss ending the war in Ukraine, potentially on terms favorable to Moscow and without Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The Kremlin says the possibility has been discussed but that there is no concrete proposal, agreed meeting or agenda; a senior U.S. official says Trump has not agreed, though he may be receptive. The proposal reportedly arose during an October 9 call between Putin and Trump, amid reported Russian diesel arrangements and a U.S. decision to delay or waive new sanctions on Moscow. Moscow has ruled out a Putin-Zelenskyy meeting until final settlement terms are reached, while Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov says a lasting peace agreement cannot be concluded without a Kyiv representative willing to take responsibility for it.
