Trump, Zelenskyy to Meet in New York

U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy are set to meet in New York on Sept. 22 during the United Nations General Assembly, following a phone call both sides described as productive and diplomatically significant. They are expected to discuss peace negotiations, de-escalation, energy and food security, civilian protection, and possible U.S. security guarantees, although Russia’s territorial demands remain unchanged and the war is not closer to ending. The meeting comes amid intensified attacks, including Ukrainian claims of major drone strikes on Moscow and Russian energy infrastructure and continued Russian drone attacks on Ukraine that have killed and injured civilians. Russia is reportedly expanding production of Iranian-designed Shahed drones, while Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil refineries and fuel facilities have disrupted energy operations and raised concerns in fuel markets. Trump has reportedly urged Zelenskyy to halt attacks on Russian oil infrastructure over concerns about global diesel prices, while Washington has approved a potential $2.7 billion air-defense sale to Ukraine and imposed further sanctions on Russia and countries buying its energy.
